2025 NHL Draft Notebook: Desnoyers, Carbonneau, Carrier
Now two weeks into the regular season, here's a look at a peek at how some notable QMJHL draft eligibles are doing.
C Caleb Desnoyers (Moncton Wildcats)
Moncton's Caleb Desnoyers came into the 2024-25 season as the QMJHL's top prospect.
He was coming off of a 56-point (20+36) rookie campaign last season and -- after a strong showing at the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup -- was in a position to play big minutes on a Moncton team that is positioned and aspiring for success.
Just three games into the season, Desnoyers has caught a tough break as in the first period of a game this week with a supposed upper-body injury.
So far, there is no update on when he'll be expected to return to the team, but you'd have to hope that it's not too serious.
Desnoyers tallied two points (1+1) over three games so far this season.
RW Justin Carbonneau (Blainville-Boisbriand Armada)
While Blainville's Justin Carbonneau was already a name to watch among scouting circles leading into the 2024-25 season, thanks to a 59-point (30+29) sophomore season last year.
Now? He's firmly entered himself into the conversation as a potential top dog in the race, thanks to a massive 10-point (4+6) start to his season.
His combination of speed and skill -- especially at a pro-ready 6-foot-1, 194 pound frame -- makes him a truly can't miss prospect.
LW Shawn Carrier (Halifax Mooseheads)
After a dismal 11-point (8+3) rookie season that lead to him getting dealt from the Moncton Wildcats to the Halifax Mooseheads, Carrier is surging right now.
He already has accumulated over half his point totals from last season, six points (3+3) over just five games so far -- leading his team.
That's more points than fellow notable NHL draft prospects, including projected first round talent Emile Guite (Chicoutimi) and fellow teammate Liam Kilfoil.
If he can keep up the hot start, the former QMJHL first round pick should start to climb draft rankings.
