2025 NFL mock draft: Bears target the trenches in new 2-round mock
The Chicago Bears have a lot work to do this offseason to improve their football team, and general manager Ryan Poles certainly has the resources between the fifth-most projected salary cap space and four picks in the Top 75.
When looking at this roster, the trenches need the most work, most notably along the offensive line. So it's no surprise that in a new mock draft The Athletic's Dane Brugler, the Bears target the offensive and defensive lines in the first two rounds to shore up their roster. With the 10th overall selection, Brugler has Chicago landing Ohio State tackle Josh Simmons, who many had pegged as OT1 before his season-ending knee injury.
Here's what Brugler had to say:
Simmons was trending towards being OT1 in this draft class until he suffered a knee injury in mid-October, which required season-ending surgery. His draft stock will be in limbo until the combine, when teams receive medical feedback from their doctors. But if he’s healthy, Simmons is a natural left tackle with a high ceiling.
With their pair of second-round selections -- including the Carolina Panthers' pick -- Chicago selects West Virginia guard/center Wyatt Milum (No. 39) and Arkansas edge rusher Landon Jackson (No. 41), addressing two other glaring holes on the roster.
When looking at the Bears' offensive line, right tackle Darnell Wright is the only one guaranteed a starting job next season. Left tackle Braxton Jones, who suffered a season-ending injury in the final month, should be ready for training camp. But he's always felt more like a bridge tackle than a long-term solution. So upgrading the interior and the edge opposite Wright would be a wise move.
Elsewhere, Chicago needs to find a complement for Montez Sweat off the edge to help get this pass rush back on track. The Bears had 40 sacks this season, which ranked 16th in the league. Not terrible, but no great either. A strong pass rush should be a priority this offseason.
