2025 NFL mock draft: Bears get steal at edge rusher in first round

The Chicago Bears are in the middle of an important offseason that starts with finding their new head coach. But general manager Ryan Poles also has some big decisions to make to improve the roster through free agency and the 2025 NFL Draft.

There are no bigger needs than in the trenches on both sides of the ball, most notably the offensive line. But with a top-10 draft pick, the Bears are positioned to land a top defensive lineman. And, if the board falls just right, Chicago could land a steal at edge rusher. That's the case in a new mock draft from CBS Sports' Chris Trapasso, where the Bears land Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter.

Abdul Carter would be a boon for the Bears at No. 10 overall given his burst, flexibility, length and ascending power.

Let's be honest, there's no way a stud like Carter to fall all the way to Chicago at No. 10, especially when he's considered, at worst, a top five selection. But, for the sake of this mock draft, let's entertain the stars aligning in the most impossible way.

Carter would instantly elevate the Bears' pass rush from a middle-of-the-pack group to one of the best in the NFL. The pairing of Montez Sweat and Carter off the edge would be huge for a defense whose biggest weakness was the defensive line.

Carter had a career year with the Nittany Lions this season, where he totaled 68 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, four pass breakups and two forced fumbles.
