2025 NFL mock draft: Bears make surprise pick at 10th overall
The Chicago Bears are in the middle of an important offseason where there are some big decisions to be made, starting with their new head coach and continuing with needed roster moves through the 2025 NFL draft.
The Bears are in a prime position to land a top prospect at a position of need in the draft, sitting with a top-10 selection for the third straight year. There's no bigger need than along the offensive line, where an argument could be made that Chicago needs four new starters this offseason.
In a new mock draft from USA Today's Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz, the Bears make a shocking move at 10th overall -- forgoing a top offensive tackle in Texas' Kelvin Banks Jr. for Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty.
Here's what USA Today had to say:
Is using a top-10 selection on a running back a good use of resources for a team with as many issues as the Bears? Maybe not. But there's little question that Chicago has to take drastic action to better support Caleb Williams after a calamitous debut campaign for the 2024 No. 1 pick. Jeanty, who rushed for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns in carrying Boise State to the College Football Playoff, is the rare ball carrier capable recalibrating an offense.
It's hard to imagine the Bears using their first-round pick on a running back. There's no denying that Jeanty is a top playmaker in college football, and he'll hit the ground running in the NFL. But the Bears aren't in a position where they can afford to take a running back in the top 10 when they have glaring needs along the offensive and defensive lines.
