2024 PGA Championship: Power ranking golfers based on championship odds

With the PGA Championship right around the corner, everyone is wondering who is going to take home the win in 2024's second major tournament. While there was speculation that tournament favorite Scottie Scheffler would not participate due to the birth of his first child, he appears to be good to go. While Scheffler is undoubtedly the favorite to win, there is still a tremendous field of golfers at Valhalla this weekend, ready to provide spectators with a tremendous experience.

Outside of Scheffler, the other frontrunners like Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka are both coming off victories in their most recent tournament appearances. Still, Scheffler has won four of his last five tournaments. Perhaps his month-long hiatus from golf will give the other golfers just enough leeway to snag a major championship of their own. Who will be the one to emerge victorious though? That's what we are trying to figure out here.

Of everyone in this tier, there is only one safe bet -- Scottie Scheffler. Everything that needs to be said about Scheffler has already been said at the top of this article. He's just been playing a level above everyone else for some time and until proven otherwise, he's going to win every tournament he plays in.

If you're a superstitious bettor though, Rory McIlroy hasn't won a major since 2014, where he won both the Open Championship and the PGA Championship. Sure, McIlroy is going through a divorce right now, but he went through a broken engagement in 2014 and look how that year turned out for him. If history does, in fact, repeat itself, then there's money to be made by betting on McIlroy.

Bet you didn't know that many people were participating in the PGA Championship this year. Of everyone on this list, Jake Knapp could be a name to watch. Long drives are his game, and that plays very well at Valhalla.

Outside of Knapp, guys like Nick Dunlap -- a young up-and-comer who has dominated every level he's competed at so far -- or Erik van Rooyen -- someone who showed potential with a strong Round 1 during the Masters before falling off in the last two days -- could be interesting bets.

Obviously, the safest bet for any player in this tier is no bet at all, but if you're dying for generational wealth, be my guest.
