2024 NBA draft first-round wrap-up: New homes for Kentucky’s Reed Sheppard, Rob Dillingham
Kentucky basketball guards Reed Sheppard and Rob Dillingham were both selected in the lottery at the NBA draft on Wednesday night in Brooklyn, New York.
It was no surprise that Sheppard went off the board first at No. 3 to the Houston Rockets. However, Dillingham being chosen eighth by the San Antonio Spurs and then getting traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves was surely not an option mentioned in anyone’s mock draft.
According to UK statistics guru Corey Price, it’s the seventh time that two former Kentucky players have been selected within the first 10 picks of the NBA draft, following:
▪ 1949 (Alex Groza, Wah Wah Jones).
▪ 1984 (Sam Bowie, Melvin Turpin).
▪ 2010 (John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins).
▪ 2011 (Enes Kanter, Brandon Knight).
▪ 2012 (Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist)
▪ 2015 (Karl-Anthony Towns, Willie Cauley-Stein).
Former Kentucky players Justin Edwards, Antonio Reeves and Tre Mitchell are still available to be chosen in Thursday’s second round, which begins at 4 p.m. ET and will air on ESPN.
Here’s a collection of the Herald-Leader and Kentucky.com’s coverage from Wednesday’s first round.
