The Lexington Herald-Leader and Kentucky.com are proud to present the 2024 All-City High School Boys Soccer Teams as voted on by the nine coaches of Lexington’s varsity KHSAA programs.

Henry Clay’s Marco Messerli was chosen as Lexington boys soccer player of the year.

Messerli, a senior forward, helped lead the Blue Devils to the 42nd District and 11th Region championships with 16 goals and a team-high 17 assists.

Henry Clay remains alive in the boys state soccer tournament and will play Oneida Baptist in the semifinals at 8 p.m. Thursday at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.

Messerli received six of the possible nine player of the year votes from the city’s coaches. Henry Clay teammate Connor Taylor got two top nods and Lafayette’s Max Jacobs got the other. Both joined Messerli on the All-City First Team.

Other first-team honorees were Frederick Douglass’ Delfin Iteriteka and Juan Piedra Figueroa, Dunbar’s Walter Claudio and Christian Delgado, Lafayette’s Meshaki Shendela, Lexington Catholic’s Bruno Monero, Sayre’s Braeden Collett, and Tates Creek’s Edwin Luna Martinez.

Players were nominated and voted on by the city’s coaches, who ranked their first- and second-team choices. Each team got five nominees. Twenty-two points were allotted to their player of the year, 21 to the next player, and etc.
