2020 sexual assault accusation revealed in bond hearing for suspended Georgia LB Adam Anderson

Adam Anderson is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in October of 2020.

A bond hearing was held for the suspended Georgia linebacker on Wednesday. Anderson is facing a felony rape charge after he was accused of raping a woman on Oct. 29. The 2020 accusation became public Wednesday as prosecutors argued why Anderson shouldn’t be released from jail.

Anderson turned himself into police on Nov. 10.

From the Athens Banner-Herald:

Athens police were contacted about the 2020 allegation by The Cottage, a local sexual assault advocacy center, after Anderson was alleged to have raped the victim that led to the felony rape charge on Oct. 29 of this year. Parker said he interviewed the female who said Anderson sexually assaulted her in 2020 and since the incident occurred outside of Clarke County, he passed it along to Oconee County police who are investigating the incident.

The alleged victim in the 2020 sexual assault said that she was at Anderson's apartment and he forcefully removed her leggings and had sex with her against her will.

Anderson was granted bond on Wednesday and will be allowed to take classes through Georgia while in his hometown of Rome, Georgia. As per the conditions of his bond, he can only be in Athens for legal matters.

Numerous Georgia teammates of Anderson’s attended his hearing. The woman accusing Anderson of sexual assault in 2021 said that she awoke after having drinks the night before to Anderson penetrating her between 5 and 6 a.m. She reported Anderson’s alleged sexual assault to police later that day.

The woman has also said that some of Anderson’s teammates have been stalking her on social media.

The 2021 alleged rape took place the day before Georgia played Florida. Anderson played in that game and had seven tackles. He hasn’t played since the assault accusation became public and has missed Georgia’s last two games.

Anderson had been one of Georgia’s best defensive players this season. He had 32 tackles and 5.5 sacks in seven games.
