Two Maryland players have been hit with multiple charges for their roles in an on-campus incident involving a BB gun.

According to the Washington Post, running back Lorenzo Harrison and wide receiver D.J. Turner were each charged with three counts of second-degree assault and three counts of reckless endangerment. University of Maryland police confirmed the charges Wednesday.

According to police, three students in three different locations reported being shot with BB pellets on campus on the evening of Nov. 6. From the Post:

According to University of Maryland police, three students reported being struck by BB pellets in three separate locations on campus on the evening of Nov. 6. The first incident occurred at 7:25 p.m., when a student reported that he was hit by a BB pellet while riding a bike on Paint Branch Drive between the Kim Engineering and Bimolecular Science buildings. Roughly an hour later, a second student reported that an hour earlier he had been walking with a female student on a sidewalk between Stadium Drive and Ellicott Hall when he was also struck with what was believed to be a BB. Later that evening, a female student also reported being struck with what was believed to be a BB while she walked with a male student between Paint Branch Drive and Technology Drive.

Harrison and Turner, both freshmen from DeMatha High School, have been suspended indefinitely by the football team. Another freshman, Antoine Brooks, was also suspended along with Harrison and Turner before last weekend’s game against Ohio State. However, Brooks is not facing charges and was reinstated to the team. He is expected to be available for Saturday’s game at Nebraska.

The loss of Harrison is a significant one for the Terps, who are sputtering down the stretch after a 4-0 start. Harrison is second on the team with 633 rushing yards on a team-high 88 carries — a 7.2 yard average. He also leads the team with five rushing touchdowns and is 57 yards from breaking the school record for rushing yards by a freshman.

Turner has two catches for 16 yards as a reserve. He’s also had a role on special teams.

Maryland has dropped five of its last six headed into Lincoln on Saturday to face the No. 18 Huskers. At 5-5, Maryland needs one more win to reach a bowl. That win could come in the season finale at home against Rutgers, which is winless in conference play, if the Terps can’t pull off an upset this weekend.
