2 Bruins Continue To Create Big Trade Buzz
The Boston Bruins are a team to watch as we get closer to the 2025 NHL trade deadline. The Original Six club has struggled with consistency this season, and there is a good chance that we will see them make some moves because of it.
In TSN's first trade bait board of the 2024-25 season, Bruins forwards Trent Frederic and Justin Brazeau made the cut. Frederic was listed at the No. 9 spot, while Brazeau was at No. 16.
Frederic being considered a top 10 trade candidate in the NHL by TSN is easy to understand. The St. Louis, Missouri native is in the final season of his contract and has generated interest since the campaign's early stages. He has also struggled mightily this season, posting just six goals, seven assists, and a minus-9 rating in 45 games.
If the Bruins find themselves out of a playoff spot near the deadline, Frederic could be a popular target for true contenders looking to improve their bottom six. However, the Bruins could also use the gritty forward in a trade package to enhance their roster elsewhere if they don't view him as a long-term part of their future.
Brazeau, 26, is another pending unrestricted free agent who could generate trade interest near the deadline. The 6-foot-6 winger has had a solid season with the Bruins, posting 10 goals, 19 points, and 70 hits in 43 games. This is after he had five goals and seven points in his first 19 NHL games last season with the Bruins.
However, while Brazeau is being named a top trade candidate, he's a player the Bruins should strongly consider keeping around before potentially shopping. He has developed into a solid third-line scorer for them. However, when noting that he is having a good year and carries a bargain $775,000 cap hit, teams should be calling.
