Manchester United Under 18s confirmed their progress to the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup by beating Preston North End by 5-2 on Friday.

United are renowned for producing some of the world’s finest footballing talent. Under the guidance of Adam Lawrence, United continue to uphold the legacy.

Preston North End were no pushovers, having triumphed 4-1 over Liverpool in the previous round.

However, United enjoyed a blistering start to the game and netted four times before half-time.

While Will Murdock and Jack Fletcher both delivered solid performances, it was the phenomenal Chido Obi-Martin who stole the limelight once again with his dazzling display.

The 17-year-old played a crucial role in setting up United’s first goal. He displayed strong hold-up play and followed that up with a clever through pass for James Scanlon.

Scanlon’s effort was blocked on the line, but Jack Fletcher reacted first to the loose ball to put United ahead.

The former Arsenal starlet tripled United’s lead in the 24th minute. Jack Fletcher made a great run with the ball from the halfway line to Preston’s box.

His shot was saved, but Obi-Martin was quick to pounce on the rebound and fire it into the net.

He scored his second goal of the evening in stunning fashion. Displaying quick footwork, Obi-Martin left one defender behind before embarking on a brilliant solo run.

Despite being surrounded by four Preston players, he remained unfazed, calmly aiming for the bottom right corner from the edge of the box to put United 4-0 up.

His strong hold-up play and lethal finishing are lessons for struggling Rasmus Hojlund.

If Obi-Martin continues to shine, manager Ruben Amorim will undoubtedly be tempted to consider him for a spot in the senior squad.
