£150k-a-week Utd man urged to seal Old Trafford exit in Jan as it’s ‘impossible’ for him to play under Amorim
Now in the final six months of his contract at Old Trafford, Christian Eriksen has been urged to seal a move away in the winter window, per GiveMeSport.
Indeed, the experienced Dane is poised to end his Manchester United tenure in June 2025, with Fabrizio Romano already confirming on numerous occasions that the club have no plans to offer him fresh terms when his current ones expire.
Eriksen was one of Erik ten Hag’s first-ever signings back in 2022, arriving as a free agent after a one-year stint with Brentford, having been forced to leave Serie A due to his heart-starting device that was fitted after Euro 2020.
He would go on to play an integral role in his maiden season, making 37 starts in all competitions and only really missing out when injured. His minutes were reduced substantially the subsequent campaign, during which he was given the nod only 14 times in total.
The 32-year-old, who earns a reported £150,000 per week, has featured sporadically since 2024/2025 got underway; six Premier League starts, three in the Europa League and one in the League Cup. He has accumulated 882 minutes on the pitch thus far – though only 68 have come under Ruben Amorim.
Eriksen has fallen entirely out of favour under Amorim
Amorim has yet to utilise Eriksen since his opening match as head coach despite making heavy rotations and changes in each game. The midfielder was named in Amorim’s first XI away to Ipswich Town last month and played 68 minutes, yet now faces a struggle to restore his place in the squad amid fierce competition in midfield.
After the Reds’ draw at Portman Road, Alan Shearer claimed it’d be ‘nigh on impossible’ for Eriksen to play the way Amorim is demanding of his side.
“For a start, he’s (Amorim) got injuries in midfield, hasn’t he? I mean, he played Casemiro and Eriksen,” the ex-frontman told the panel.
“It would be nigh on impossible for those two to do what he wants in terms of the press and the high energy and the sprint and the running and everything else.”
