£10m Chelsea target’s amazing connection to one of Rudiger’s top 3 centre backs

Late last night, news emerged that Chelsea were closing in on another South American talent.

16 year old Denner of Corinthians is the latest youngster on our radar, and Brazilian source Globo claimed that we have a meeting set for today to finalise a £10m move for the left back, who would arrive in the summer of 2026 after his 18 birthday.

The news prompted plenty of frustrations from Chelsea fans, and understandably so. We’re into the final days of January now, and a squad which needed plenty of outgoings and a few incomings has managed very little of what many supporters hoped for.

The season, which started so brightly, is slipping between our fingers, and the fact that those in charge are seemingly devoting their time and energy and budget to signing another player who won’t even be able to come to this country for a couple of years rather than addressing the immediate problems of the squad is maddening.

Still, we’re all in favour of continuing to scout the market for young talent – it’s only irritating when there are gaping holes in the first team squad which need filling, or outcasts from the first team squad sitting around at Cobham for 6 months without a move being found.

Denner does look a top talent – and curiously it’s been discovered he’s the cousin of Gabriel Magalhaes, the Arsenal defender who Antonio Rudiger named as among the 3 best defenders in the world. If he’s half as good as his relative, we should be all over this kid.

But the question remains – why are we signing a 16 year old left back for 2026 when we need a backup left back right now, following the loan of Renato Veiga to Juventus?
