1-2: Castilla lose to Algeciras

Real Madrid Castilla were beaten by Algeciras. Our team was worthy of at least a point at the Alfredo Di Stéfano stadium against the visitors, who were very sharp in front of goal. With all three goals came in the first half after, Montes Arce gave the Andalusians the lead before Palacios equalised, but it was Diego Esteban who settle the match with a goal that started in a questionable position.

There was a fast-paced start to the game as Castilla created the first dangerous opportunity. Theo took a free kick and Mario Martín's header was saved by goalkeeper Lucho. The visitors' reaction was decisive as Montes Arce put Algeciras in front with a header in the next move. Our team came very close to equalising midway through the first half. Palacios swung in a corner in the 23rd minute and Theo's shot missed the target by inches.

Palacios equalised
Castilla were having their best spell of the game and Raúl's side leveled on the half-hour mark. Peter provided the assist from a set piece, and Palacios headed in the equaliser, leaving the visitors' goalkeeper helpless to keep it out. Our team had the chance to turn the scoreline around four minutes later, but Lucho came out on top in a one-on-one with Gonzalo. And from almost making it 2-1, Diego E. got the visitors' second, although he started the move in a possible offside position before beating Cañizares in the 36th minute.
There was still the whole of the second half to stage the comeback. After the break, Raúl's men had two consecutive chances to draw level. The first, with 59 minutes gone, saw Peter cross and Gonzalo's volley inside the area fly narrowly off target. A minute later, our team came even closer, as Palacios was one-on-one with an inspired Lucho, who once again denied Madrid fro,m scoring.

No reward
As the minutes passed, the visitors had their own chance in the 64th minute when Zequi's long-range shot hit the crossbar. That didn't faze Castilla, who continued to attack in an attempt to at least find an equaliser. Six minutes later they almost found one, Álvaro's shot from the edge of the area sailed just over the bar. Raúl's side continued to push forward. Peter whipped in a cross in the 76th minute and Gonzalo's header at the far post crashed into the side netting. A clearer opportunity came in the added time when Álvaro came close. The forward got in front of the visiting keeper from a cross and his header skimmed the Algeciras goalpost. Luck was not on Castilla's side, who deserved much more.
