€1,000-per-minute: Barcelona star reveals Xavi’s strict fine system

Barcelona star Pedri has on Wednesday provided an insight into the fine system put in place by former manager Xavi Hernández during his time at the club.

Spanish tactician Xavi, of course, was relieved of his duties on the Camp Nou touchline earlier this year.

Just 12 months on from securing the La Liga title, the ex-midfielder was sent on his way to make room for Hansi Flick.

Owing to the remarkable start to life since enjoyed by Flick in Catalunya’s capital, the decision has been widely commended, amid the widespread accusation that Xavi was simply not getting the best out of his players.

Safe to say, though, that as much was certainly not down to a lack of discipline on the part of the 44-year-old.

This comes amid confirmation on the part of the aforementioned Pedri that he and his teammates were under strict punctuality rules under Xavi’s watch.

Speaking during an appearance on ‘Martínez y Hermanos’, as cited by Diario Sport, this week, Pedri was drawn on life under his former headmaster, and went on explain:

“Under Xavi, if a player was late, they had to pay an amount of €1,000 for each minute of delay. With each minute, more from that first, it doubles.”
