Manchester United bowed out of the Carabao Cup following a 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-final on Thursday night.

The Red Devils had a mixed performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and there were plenty of defensive errors which contributed to the loss.

Spurs raced into a deserved 3-0 lead in the 54th minute. United made a good comeback, but it was orchestrated by two goalkeeping errors from Fraser Forster.

Altay Bayindir was equally responsible with a couple for United. The match ended 4-3 in Spurs’ favour.

There were plenty of poor performers last night. Bayindir had a forgettable game in goal while Lisandro Martinez was far from his best in the backline.

The Argentine gifted Dejan Kulusevski with the second goal with a dreadful attempt to clear his lines before being outmuscled by Dominic Solanke for the third.

However, we were most disappointed by Antony who failed to capitalise on a big opportunity.

The Brazil international got the nod as one of the playmakers alongside Bruno Fernandes, but he was barely a threat with his lack of pace quite evident.

Antony won just four out of 14 duels contested. He did not complete any of his four dribbles. He lost possession on 11 occasions with just 13 passes.

He received a rating of just 4/10 from Manchester Evening News.

The former Ajax winger had the chance to make a big impression on the manager but after yesterday’s showing, he may not start another game for a while.

Antony did not muster a single shot on goal until he was replaced in the 55th minute by Amad Diallo.

Diallo was sensational in his cameo with five attempts on goal. He capitalised on Forster’s error to score and also provided a late assist for Jonny Evans from a corner.

Manager Ruben Amorim should have started Diallo in the first place. The result could have been different, had the Ivorian ace been named in the starting line-up.
