French Open 2012: Best and worst dressed
Busted Racquet selects the best and worst dressed players at the 2012 French Open.
THE BEST
Roger Federer -- The all-black kit always looks nice, but especially contrasted against the red clay of Roland Garros. Those accented neon pocket corners are solid.
Serena Williams -- Don't fret, Serena; at least you looked good in defeat (and gave me a hankering for a triple scoop of mint pistachio ice cream).
Caroline Wozniacki -- There's little in-between with Caro's Stella McCartney dresses. She's either slumming it with Djokovic and Yonex endorsers on the worst-dressed list or hanging around the Nike crew on the best dressed. This neon number puts her on the latter.
Maria Kirilenko -- Next step: Giving fashion tips to boyfriend, and skinny jeans aficionado, Alex Ovechkin.
Rafael Nadal -- A reporter asked Rafa the color of his shirt. He didn't know. Nike says it's Scarlet Fire and Anthracite. I'd say I didn't know either.
Sloane Stephens -- The 19-year-old American gets an understated look from the often-overstated Under Armour.
Ivan Lendl -- We'd point out Lendl's glasses/sunglasses combo, but we're afraid he possesses the capability to burn a hole by just staring.
Maria Sharapova -- It looks hot. Literally. And figuratively too, I suppose.
WORST DRESSED
Novak Djokovic -- The world No. 1 is like a bizarro Don Draper: He can't pull off a hat at all. The new Uniqlo kit was a yawn but still better than anything Sergio Tacchini dressed him in.
Bernard Tomic -- (See above.)
Similarly dressed Frenchmen, clockwise from top left, Nicolas Mahut, Richard Gasquet, Julien Benneteau, Jeremy Chadry -- I quite like the shirt. It's really nice for a high school tennis team jersey.
Cedrik Marcel-Stebe -- The fashion equivalent of bottled sand art.
Marinko Matosevic and Ashley Fisher -- Pre-match conversation between the Aussie doubles partners: "Hey, we going with the black socks tomorrow?" "Yeah, sounds good. Everything goes with black socks, especially shirts with huge blue diamonds."
Anne Keothavong -- Sweden announced it was disowning Keothavong for the yellow/blue combo. Worst part is, she's British.
Gilles Muller -- Phew, we were worried Djokovic going to Uniqlo was going to leave us Tacchini-less.
Heather Watson -- The British players must be trying to get it out of their system before Wimbledon.
Mandy Minella -- (Whispers with Australian accent) In its natural habitat, the tennis player with the Y-shaped yellow stripe asserts her dominance over the pack as the worst dressed at the 2012 French Open.
