Millwall ban 13-year-old fan for verbally abusing Bolton player

Millwall have banned a 13-year-old fan from the club's matches "for the foreseeable future" after it was determined that he racially abused Bolton's Marvin Sordell during a match at the New Den in October. Following a joint investigation by Millwall, Bolton and the FA, the boy admitted what he said and wrote Sordell, who was also involved in the racially-charged clash between England and Serbia's U-21 teams a week later, a letter of apology.

In a statement released by Millwill, they announced that they have offered the boy a place in "one of our education programmes, run by Millwall for All (formerly the Millwall Anti-Racism Trust) in the hope that we can change his outlook on equality, racism and life in general."

As disturbing as it is that a kid so young would racially abuse a footballer, Sordell, who played for Great Britain at the London Olympics, alleged in a series of tweets after the match that he and teammates Lee Chung-young, Darren Pratley and Benik Afobe were subject to more abuse than just one teenager could offer while nearby police did nothing.

So a kid gets punished, but it seems the bigger problem is getting ignored. Again.
