Marek Hamsik robbed at gunpoint after Napoli-Sampdoria match

Marek Hamsik became the latest Napoli player or family member robbed at gunpoint in Naples. Hamsik, whose agent said he wouldn't ever leave the city last week and was the subject of a mural expressing Naples' love for him, had just left Napoli's 0-0 draw against Sampdoria at the Stadio San Paolo when the armed gunman bust through his car window.

From Reuters:

A report on Napoli's official radio station said that the Slovakian was on his way to the city's Capodichino airport when the incident happened.

Two individuals were reported to have stopped his car, smashed one of the windows and, after waving a gun in the 25-year-old's face, made off with his watch and other valuables, before police arrived on the scene.

Hamsik's wife was robbed at gunpoint and carjacked in Naples while she was pregnant in 2011, as Ezequiel Lavezzi's girlfriend. Last year, Edinson Cavani's wife had an €18,000 watch stolen from her near the San Paolo.

Sticking a gun in Marek Hamsik's face is another level of insanity, though. Look at the picture at the top of this post. The muggers are lucky he didn't swallow them whole. Or he could have pulled a Leonardo Bonucci, ignored their guns and punched them in the face before chasing them like a T-1000.

UPDATE: Hamsik put out a statement after the incident and reveals this is the third time this has happened to him(!), yet he seems to be taking it better than most would. From Football Italia:

"I'm really unhappy about what happened after the match,” a statement read on the club's official website.

“It's the third time that it's happened to me since I've been here.

"I'm really sorry that these kind of things happen but unfortunately it is one of the hardships of living in Napoli."

Marek Hamsik might be one of the most understanding people in the world.
