Yahoo Fantasy Hockey: Key categories to help win your league's title

Dobber launched his fantasy hockey website DobberHockey back in 2005 and has been Puck Daddy's resident fantasy hockey 'expert' since 2009.

At this point, 95 percent of fantasy owners have given up. One week left and your team's status is pretty clear. And while most poolies are either well out of it, or well in the lead - there are still many leagues out there with a championship in doubt.

It's all or nothing now. One more weekly roster to set. Time to make the tough decisions, such as dropping superstars on Anaheim to pick up a plugger on Carolina who has a lot of hits. Running the Game Planner over at Frozen Pool, I have a breakdown of the games remaining (by team) between Friday April 3 and Saturday April 11:

Anyway, since some of you will be dropping some big names, much like last week I'll again expand my Waiver Wire section and skip right to it…

The Wire...

Don't laugh at some of these names - you need to focus on one or two categories and also focus on the teams with more games left. So this is the No Anaheim Zone.

For Hits… (all reports from this Report Generator)

Mark Borowiecki, Ottawa Senators (13-1-2-3, plus-5, 17 PIM, 56 Hits) - In your roto or H2H league you drop your Anaheim Duck or Maple Leaf or Pred, and you pick up Borowiecki. He's only 4% owned and he has about 25 hits waiting on a silver platter for you.

Marcus Foligno, Buffalo Sabres (10-0-3-3, minus-5, 10 BLKS, 41 Hits) - Five games left and the younger Foligno is dishing out four hits per game (and that includes the big "zero" he was credited with Wednesday against Toronto). Throwing a check against the Leafs may have cost his team that all-important loss and may have resulted in a McBenching. So he held off - but the Sabres won anyway.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Ottawa Senators (12-4-4-8, plus-3, 32 Hits, 20 SOG) - Nobody outside of Ottawa (and of course the hardcore poolies) knew that Pageau loves to throw the body around like this. He'd been in the minors for half the season yet he'll still end up with 160 hits.

For PIM…

Tom Wilson, Washington Capitals (10-0-2-2, even, 20 PIM, 35 Hits) - Just 4% owned, Wilson's hits and PIM have been evenly spread out over the past several weeks. The numbers you see weren't accrued in a particularly rough game or two. Take the extra game or two and focus the roster spot on addressing just a couple of categories.

Michael Stone, Arizona Coyotes (10-0-1-1, minus-1, 18 PIM, 19 SOG, 29 BLKS) - Stone won't be a complete sieve offensively, as he does take his share of shots on goal (and even more so now that Keith Yandle is gone). But he's always solid for BLKS and lately he's been picking up penalties - at least one penalty in six of his last 10 games.

Kyle Quincey, Detroit Red Wings (11-0-4-4, plus-5, 16 PIM, 18 BLKS) - Quincey has been a steady PIM option all season long, but that's really been his only category of note. However, since the trade deadline he has chipped in the odd point and his plus/minus has soared.

For BLKS

Mike Weber, Buffalo Sabres (10 games, 10 PIM, 25 Hits, 44 BLKS) - Weber leads the Sabres in blocked shots, but has a 1% ownership rate because, well, it's the Sabres. So no points to be had and the plus/minus takes a killing. But for just this one week he can help you with that BLKS category with as many as 17 or 18 in five games.

Chris Tanev, Vancouver Canucks (10-0-5-5, plus-2, 31 BLKS) - Now that the team is obligated to pay him $22.5 million, Tanev seems to be more comfortable throwing himself in front of 100 MPH rubber bullets. And as an added bonus, look at his recent stats - he suddenly thinks he's Johnny SetupMan. Just 1% owned.

For Points

David Pastrnak, Boston Bruins (7-2-6-8, plus-2, 11 SOG, 1 PPPts) - Red hot, just 18% owned, and still five games left on the slate.

Cam Atkinson, Columbus Blue Jackets (11-7-5-11, plus-6, 10 PIM, 4 PPPts, 26 SOG) - Also red hot, but Atkinson has the added bonus of his track record for putting up points in late March/early April. Columbus still has six games left.
