Wednesday’s Three Stars: Jokinen’s trick; Kiprusoff’s scorpion save; Red Wings push streak to 18

No. 1 Star: Olli Jokinen, Calgary Flames

It's gotta be the burgers. Jokinen now has seven points in his last four games, tallying a hat trick and an assist in the Flames' 4-3 win over the San Jose Sharks. He opened the scoring at 12:30 of the first; scored on the power play 2:36 into the second; assisted on Jarome Iginla's second-period goal to break a 2-2 tie; and then scored just under 3 minutes after Michal Handzus tied the game in the third. All of it gave Miikka Kiprusoff (34 saves) win No. 300 for this career.

No. 2 Star: Ryan Miller, Buffalo Sabres

While he did get an assist from the refs on a goalie interference call, Miller was also superb when necessary in a 36-save shutout of the Boston Bruins. The Sabres won, 6-0, with James Patrick behind the bench and Lindy Ruff in the press box with his broken ribs.

No. 3 Star: Corey Perry, Anaheim Ducks

Perry's controversial game-winner — he got away with a clear trip on Jussi Jokinen before scoring — gave the Ducks another big victory, 3-2 in overtime vs. the Carolina Hurricanes. Perry's goal, his 23rd, was assisted by Sheldon Brookbank.

Honorable mention: Johan Franzen, Cory Emmerton, Drew Miller and Henrik Zetterberg had the goals while Joey MacDonald made 15 saves in the Detroit Red Wings' 4-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers. It was the 18th straight home victory for Detroit. Sam Gagner (who else?) had both goals for Edmonton. … Logan Couture and Joe Pavelski had the other Sharks goals. … Jason Pominville had two goals for the Sabres; Tyler Ennis, Ville Leino and Andrej Sekera had two points each. … This Tuomo Ruutu goal in the first period gets an "A" for effort:

Did you know? Via Liam McHugh of NBC: "Drew & Ryan Miller become 1st bros to record a game winner & a shutout on same night since Phil & Tony Esposito in '73"

Save of the Night: Kiprusoff goes "scorpion" to stop this shot …

… much like he did nearly three years ago in San Jose, no less:

Dishonorable mention: First off, another mention of the aforementioned bad calls in Buffalo and Anaheim — just brutal. … Zdeno Chara, Dennis Seidenberg and Johnny Boychuk were all minus-3. … A big mess at 17:37 of the third period saw Lucic, Kaleta and Adam McQuaid receive misconducts. … Tuukka Rask was pulled after giving up three goals on 10 shots. … Brad Marchand chirped the heck out of Leino moments before he had a spin-o-rama assist on a Sabres goal. Motivation!
