Watch Michal Svihalek's successful airhook goal in Czech Republic (Video)

HC České Budějovice beat HC Jestřábi Prostějov 3-2 on Saturday, keeping them at the top of the Czech 1.liga standings. The win was nice, but the third period tying goal by 21-year old Michal Svihalek will be the one fans remember for a long time.

With Budějovice trailing 2-1, Svihalek fended off an opponent behind the Prostějov net and found himself with time to evaluate the situation. After a look, he decided to go for the airhook attempt:

The defenseman in front knew what was coming as soon as Svihalek squat down to scoop the puck up on his blade, but he was a split second too late. Notice the Prostějov goaltender, who was a bit slow tracking the Budějovice forward as he was behind the net, couldn’t quite process what was happening, remaining frozen for a few seconds after the goal.

Somewhere, Bill Armstrong, Mike Legg and Mikael Granlund are smiling.
