Tomi Maki was stapled along the boards after a hit from CSKA’s Igor Makarov during their game on Sunday. OK, not quite literally stapled, but the Jokerit forward soon found he was unable to detach himself from the glass.

Play went on for a few seconds before the officials realized that things had turned into a unique man advantage for the home side:

Thank you, Nik Hagman.

That photographer you see using a cell phone to try and free Maki from the glass is Alex Pouliot-Roberge from RDS. Why was he fine with risking damage to his phone? It was a faux Samsung from China, he said afterward, via SovSport. “[B]ought at Savelovsky market for 4000 rubles. It is very durable, made of iron, they can hammer nails.”

His attempts were unsuccessful as they probably needed one of those Zack Morris phones. The weight alone could have freed Maki earlier, and perhaps did some damage to the glass in the process.

Maki’s freedom didn’t help Jokerit in the end, however, as they fell to CSKA in overtime 4-3.
