Vancouver Sun apologizes for photo calling Jordan Subban ‘dark guy in middle’

Jordan Subban, the younger brother of Montreal Canadiens star P.K. Subban, scored his first goal in the NHL of any kind for the Vancouver Canucks in their exhibition game against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night.

Naturally, the Vancouver Sun spotlighted the moment with a photograph on their website.

Wait, what, you can’t tell which one Jordan Subban is? Luckily, the Sun hosted a photo with a cutline that identified Subban, who is black, as “dark guy in the middle.”

How. Does. This. Happen?!

The Vancouver Sun is on the case! The paper apologized on Wednesday morning, and promised a full investigation.

The Vancouver Province, which also ran the photo, later apologized as well.

Both the Sun and the Vancouver Province ran the photo that was shot by Steve Bosch of Pacific Newspaper Group, which owns both papers. It’s unclear who wrote the cutline. Hopefully it’s clear that they might not be cut out for photo editing as a profession with PNG any longer.
