Utah Grizzlies to honor military with creative specialty uniforms (Photos)
Every year, one of the ways hockey teams honor members of the military is by sporting camoflauge jerseys during either the actual game or in warmups. So that’s why what the Utah Grizzlies are doing for their “Military Night” on the March 28 is appreciated since it’s a fresh idea.
When the ECHL’s Grizzlies host the Idaho Steelheads, they’ll take to the ice sporting a design inspired by the Army Service Uniform:
The uniforms were designed by Jeff Tasca, a graphic designer whose work you’ve definitely seen. He’s the man responsible for jerseys featuring Iron Man, Batman and Robin, tuxedos and many, many others.
Tasca told Paul Caputo of SportsLogos.net that the Grizzlies’ head equipment manager came up with the idea and that the design process took some time to get all the details of the ASU just right, like the ribbons, badges and medals:
But here’s the coolest part of the entire promotion: the front of the Grizzlies' jerseys will feature the last name of a season-ticket holder who is currently serving or has served in the military.
The jerseys will be available via a live auction after the game, with the proceeds benefiting The Fisher House in Salt Lake City, a facility that provides a place for military families to stay, free of charge, while their loved one is receiving medical treatment.
