Tuesday’s Three Stars: Another shutout for Smith; Roy, Ladd net overtime winners

No. 1 Star: Mike Smith, Phoenix Coyotes

The Columbus Blue Jackets set a franchise record with 54 shots but none found their way past Smith. Stopping all 54 he faced, Smith earned his third straight shutout as the Coyotes blanked the Blue Jackets 2-0. The shutout was Smith's eighth of the season and 19th of his career. He's not allowed a goal in 219:59, the second-best streak in franchise history.

No. 2 Star: Derek Roy, Buffalo Sabres

The Sabres rebounded from a 3-0 deficit in the first period to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-5 thanks to Roy's second goal of the game coming with 1:31 left in overtime. Alex Sulzer scored twice and added an assist as the Sabres tied the Washington Capitals at 80 points for eighth in the East with two games to go for both clubs.

No. 3 Star: Andrew Ladd, Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg fell behind 3-0 early in the second period, but clawed back and eventually took the extra point 3:13 into overtime when Andrew Ladd potted his second goal of the night for the 5-4 win over the Florida Panthers:

Honorable mention: New Jersey scored in each period to extend their winning streak to three games with a 3-1 win over the New York Islanders. Travis Zajac broke a 1-1 with a power play goal 22 seconds into the second period and Ilya Kovalchuk netted his 35th with the empty-netter for the Devils ... The New York Rangers stormed out to a 4-0 first period lead and held on to defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-3 and clinch the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. Henrik Lundqvist made 37 saves and Marian Gaborik and Ryan McDonagh each had a goal and an assist. With the win the Rangers swept the season series with the Flyers 6-0 ... San Jose scored four unanswered goals to strengthen their playoff chances with a 5-2 win over the Dallas Stars. Antti Niemi made 29 saves and Logan Couture chipped in two points. The win puts the Sharks three points ahead of Dallas for the No. 8 spot in the West ... Second period goals from Brandon Sutter and Tuomo Ruutu, along with 38 saves from Cam Ward secured the Carolina Hurricanes a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators ... Matt Frattin recorded a Gordie Howe Trick in the first period against Buffalo ... Robyn Regehr played in his 900th NHL game ... Alex Radulov scored the only goal in the shootout and Anders Lindback made 25 saves and stopped both shootout attempts he faced as the Nashville Predators edged the Minnesota Wild 2-1 ... Kyle Brodziak took a Darroll Powe skate to the face, but did return to the game later wearing a visor and sporting stitches on his cheek and nose:

Sidney Crosby posted another multi-point game as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Boston Bruins 5-3. Crosby scored twice and assisted on another to give him 9 points over his last three games. Kris Letang recorded three helpers and James Neal scored his 40th goal of the year for Pittsburgh ... Alex Burrows scored twice in regulation and also in the shootout as the Vancouver Canucks got by the Anaheim Ducks 5-4. Henrik Sedin assisted on two goals to give him seven in his last three games.

Dishonorable mention: The Devils lost Jacob Josefson with a fractured wrist. The early estimate on a return is 4-6 weeks ...
