• Philadelphia Flyers owner Ed Snider on Ilya Bryzgalov: “I think we're in good shape in goal. I have a lot of faith in Bryzgalov. I think he'll do a real good job for us. I'm not concerned. I think a lot of his problems had to do with the different style we played as opposed to Phoenix, and I really believe we'll probably tighten it up a bit to help him out. And I think he's a damn good goalie." [Philly.com]

• TSN looks at the top rookies, including “Vladimir Tarasenko, RW, St. Louis - The 16th overall pick in 2010, Tarasenko is a sturdy and skilled winger; strong enough to win battles down low and along the boards, but deft enough to create and finish plays in the offensive zone. He scored 14 goals and 31 points in 31 KHL games this season and is slated to start the year with Alex Steen and Andy McDonald in St. Louis. A defensive coach like Ken Hitchcock can be hard on rookies, but Tarasenko's two-way game shouldn't inhibit his opportunities to produce right out of the gate.” [TSN]

• American Hockey League President and Chief Executive Officer David Andrews announced today that the league’s Board of Governors has voted to discontinue to the current test of AHL Rule 82 (“Icing”), effective Friday, January 18. “We believe that 564 games has been a sufficient test period for ‘hybrid icing’ and that the application of the rule has been positive for the most part,” said Andrews. “But because we have more than 300 players recalled to the National Hockey League each season, it is our view that these players should have the benefit of a consistent application of the icing rule in both the AHL and NHL.”

• On Zach Parise and the Minnesota Wild first line: “It is one of the worst kept secrets regarding the Wild this season that he will be an anchor on the first line with Mikko Koivu and Dany Heatley. Heatley performs best when he is being fed the puck, and both Koivu and Parise like to pass. The likely scenario is that with another solid 1st line player, Heatley’s numbers should increase significantly. As long as Koivu can starve off the injury bug, his numbers should be doubled, or even tripled.” [Wild]
