Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon surprise boy battling cancer, have water gun fight (Video)

Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon have been like Batman and Robin in Nova Scotia this summer, without the whole crime fighting thing. But they’re still using their powers for good.

They’ve eaten at local restaurants. Served coffee at Tim Horton’s, and now this touching story via Global News.

Bryan Carroll, a 7-year-old Leukemia patient who lives in Dartmouth, has been fighting the disease for over a year. He can’t leave home, so he has been spending a lot of time in his backyard.

His dad said the backyard needed some work, and friends started a Go Fund Me page to try to pay for the repairs. Per the story, four days later, locals took matters into their own hands.

For about five hours, volunteers young and old went to work — laying sod, painting, cutting tree branches, putting together furniture and planting flowers.

Bryan’s family was unaware of the busy work in their backyard; they spent the day travelling by train in a private car because Bryan loves trains.

Volunteers rushed to complete the transformation.

“[I think he’ll be] surprised. Very, very surprised,” said Bryan’s best friend Sam Ruginski, 7, just before he picked up a shovel to join in the work.

After the work was done, Crosby and MacKinnon showed up and checked out the backyard. They even played with water guns in the above video.

The two also served up Tim Horton’s to unsuspecting customers at a local drive-thru while filming a commercial, which led to some great photo ops.

Yup, Chris Morris (the Instagramer) is definitely taller than Crosby.

Practice hockey, help child battling cancer, serve coffee to locals – they’re like Nova Scotia’s athlete human charity machines this summer.  Good on them.
