Sharks vs. Penguins: Stanley Cup Final Game 6 Live Blog
11:00 p.m. ET: The Penguins and Sharks fired 67 shot attempts each in this game. Probably the best overall game for San Jose this series, but it wasn't enough to push it to seven games.
10:46 p.m. ET: The Pittsburgh Penguins have captured their fourth Stanley Cup in team history with a 3-1 win in Game 6 at the San Jose Sharks. The Penguins deserved this series. They outshot the Sharks in all but one game to take the Cup.
10:43 p.m. ET: That should do it for the Penguins. Patric Hornqvist scores the empty net goal. It's 3-1 Pens with 1:02 left.
10:43 p.m. ET: With 90 seconds left the Sharks' net is empty.
10:39 p.m. ET: There's three minutes to go. Icing by the Sharks. Martin Jones is still in his net. The Sharks have just one shot on goal this period.
10:35 p.m. ET: The Stanley Cup is out of its box and ready to be presented.

10:30 p.m. ET: Normally the Penguins have a forward manning the point on their power play on the first unit. Taking no chances at this stage of the game, putting two defensemen on ice.
10:26 p.m. ET: The Penguins have a chance to take a two-goal lead. Brent Burns gets penalized for a slash at the 11:02 mark of the third period. At very least it will allow Pittsburgh to play in San Jose's end for two minutes.
10:24 p.m. ET: The Penguins aren't playing passively this third period. They are taking it to the Sharks. Midway through the third the Sharks have just one shot on goal.
10:22 p.m. ET: The Penguins just killed San Jose's power play. The Sharks are now 1-for-11 with the man-advantage this series. Before the Cup Final they were at 27 percent.
10:18 p.m. ET: And just like that the Sharks have drawn a power play. Conor Sheary took down Justin Braun. San Jose's once mighty power play hasn't scored since Game 1 of this series.
10:14 p.m. ET: The Sharks haven't had a power play this game.
10:13 p.m. ET: Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Melker Karlsson, both players who missed time early this game for San Jose, are on the ice this period.
10:11 p.m. ET: The third period has started. Logan Couture against Sidney Crosby on the faceoff.
9:55 p.m. ET: Through two periods the shot attempts are an even 48-48.
9:53 p.m. ET: End of two periods the score is 2-1 Penguins in what has been the best game of this series so far. Can the Sharks figure out a way to come back or will Pittsburgh lift the Stanley Cup at SAP Center.
9:49 p.m. ET: Marc-Edouard Vlasic is back on the ice. He missed several shifts this period. He's one of the Sharks' most consistent players.
9:49 p.m. ET: Another angle shows Chris Kunitz had a wide open net on his 2-on-1 with Evgeni Malkin.

9:43 p.m. ET: Evgeni Malkin and Chris Kunitz had a 2-on-1 from the blueline in but did not score. One pass too many by Kunitz and Martin Jones kept battling to back the save. The Sharks' backcheck also had something to do with it. Still 2-1 Penguins in a wildly entertaining contest.

9:40 p.m. ET: Joe Pavelski shot the puck through Matt Murray and it didn’t end up in the net. Been that kind of Final for Lil Joe. - WYSHYNSKI
9:40 p.m. ET: The Sharks have taken over the possession game this period according to the shot attempts chart.
9:39 p.m. ET: Potentially a big loss for the Sharks. Defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic -- who is the team's top matchup bluliner -- is reportedly not on the bench.
Vlasic missing for now #SJSharks

9:37 p.m. ET: Joe Thornton had a beautiful set up for Joe Pavelski who just shot the puck wide with Matt Murray moving to get into position. The net appeared wide open on the short side. Pavelski has one goal this series and it was an empty netter in Game 5.
9:29 p.m. ET: Just 1:19 after they score, the Sharks lose KRIS LETANG (!) in the offensive zone, allowing Sidney Crosby to find him after skating in back of the Sharks’ net for a quick shot that banged off of Jones’s and behind him. Back-breaker of a goal, as you felt the ice really tilting to the Sharks. Crosby with one point in Game 6, which we’re sure would be enough for his Canadian backers to give him the Conn Smythe over our sweet angel Phil. - WYSHYNSKI
9:29 p.m. ET: A big shift by Kris Letang gives him a goal and the Penguins a 2-1 lead. Letang got the puck deep swung in front and finished a shot off a pass by Sidney Crosby at the 7:46 mark of the second period.
9:26 p.m. ET: Full marks to Brent Burns on that Logan Couture goal. He couldn't keep the puck in the zone, but managed to maintain possession in the neutral zone and dish back in. Couture's goal was a beauty too: Toe drag using Justin Schultz as a screen. -WYSHYNSKI
9:25 p.m. ET: Logan Couture fires a deft wrist shot through the legs of Matt Murray at the 6:27 mark of the second period to tie the game at 1-1. That's his 30th point of the playoffs to lead the NHL.
9:22 p.m. ET: What a goaltending clinic so far in the second period. Jones’s pad stop on Bonino. Murray with several good stops, some of the on really difficult deflections. Sharks have six shots in the period less than 4 minutes in! - WYSHYNSKI

9:15 p.m. ET: Beautiful tribute video before the start of the second period on Gordie Howe. The TV showed Sidney Crosby looking at it and cracking a smile.
9:06 p.m. ET: In case you missed it, Cuba Gooding Jr. made a bit of a verbal gaffe on the NHL on NBC before the game. The below video is NFSW DUE TO LANGUAGE.

9:05 p.m. ET: Video of Melker Karlsson going into the boards awkwardly. He eventually returned after limping off the ice.
9:03 p.m. ET: After one period the Penguins hold a 21-15 shot attempts advantage. When they get going they can fire a lot of shots in a hurry.
9:02 p.m. ET: Well that was fun. The Sharks controlled play for a bit, the Penguins stormed the zone for a bit. Really great chance for Phil Kessel late in the period, but he was D’d up well by Brent Burns. We saw Jones still in Game 5 mode outside of the Dumoulin power-play goal, and we saw the Penguins with two lines laying well at this point. One goal probably isn’t getting it done tonight. (Also, happy to see Melker Karlsson back out after that spill.) - WYSHYNSKI
8:55 p.m. ET: It's 1-0 Penguins after one very entertaining period of hockey.
8:54 p.m. ET:
Phil just missed on a point blank chance. Burns really roughing up our sweet angel. #StanleyCup

8:51 p.m. ET: Martin Jones with some flat-out robbery of Conor Sheary.
What a save by Jones!! #StanleyCup pic.twitter.com/BFGPJYP29s

8:48 p.m. ET: The Sharks have taken over the shot attempts lead this period with 11-9. Coach Peter DeBoer noted how the Penguins are a quick starting team. They showed it already with a goal.
8:46 p.m. ET: Fantastic response so far from the Sharks. Joel Ward had a breakaway that Chris Kunitz had to lay out to stop. Two prolonged cycles in the offensive zone – one off a Kris Letang turnover – and getting shots through on Matt Murray. This is what you’re looking for. Well, that and the Crosby line has been the only one to earn significant zone time on the Sharks’ end. -WYSHYNSKI
8:43 p.m. ET: What a backcheck by Chris Kunitz to prevent a breakaway by Joel Ward. Two big backchecks by Pittsburgh have stopped big scoring chances now.
8:38 p.m. ET: Olli Maatta takes down Melker Karlsson who seemed to be in horrible pain. Leaves the game. Fans booing thinking there should have been a call.

8:36 p.m. ET: Brian Dumoulin fires a shot through Martin Jones. Goal Penguins. 1-0 and Pittsburgh scores first for the fifth time this series.
8:35 p.m. ET: Dainius Zubrus to the box for a trip on Brian Dumoulin.
8:33 p.m. ET: Matt Nieto had a glorious chance with a shot off a rush. Chris Tierney was there for the rebound, but Justin Schultz tied up Tierney to prevent the secondary scoring opportunity.
8:30 p.m. ET: Should we be shocked that the PIttsburgh Penguins have taken the first two shots of the game by the first TV timeout? They've outshot the Sharks every game except one this series. Shots attempts are 3-1 in favor of the Pens as well.
8:22 p.m ET: Joe Thornton really worked over Sidney Crosby on that opening faceoff. Crosschecked him a little off the play. Crosby slashed Thornton off the draw.
8:21 p.m. ET: And Game 6 is underway at SAP Center. Joonas Donskoi again on the first line with Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski for the Sharks.
8:20 p.m. ET: Before Game 6, the NHL paid tribute to victims from the weekend shooting in Orlando.
A moment of silence for the victims and their families of the Orlando tragedy. https://t.co/9fBmdI69YP
