Sergei Bobrovsky out of All-Star Game; Blues’ Brian Elliott gets call

Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky will miss this weekend’s NHL All-Star Game in Columbus with a groin injury. He suffered the lower body injury during the team’s loss against the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday.

Brian Elliott of the St. Louis Blues was named as his replacement. He was limited to 22 games this season due to injury, but has a 1.86 GAA and a .930 save percentage. He was a participant in the 2012 NHL All-Star Game.

(We also assume he had another important asset as an All-Star Game goalie, which is that he was available and wanted to participate.)

Bobrovsky is the fifth player to have to pull out of the NHL All-Star Game due to injury, along with Detroit Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard, Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne and Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin. Los Angeles Kings forward Tanner Pearson also pulled out after being named as one of the game’s rookie additions.

The Jackets don’t have a timetable for a return of Bob. Seeing as how they’re 14 points out of the wild card … no rush.
