Scott Gomez joins AHL's Hershey Bears on tryout deal

Two weeks after the St. Louis Blues placed him on unconditional waivers, Scott Gomez has resurfaced and signed a tryout contract with the AHL’s Hershey Bears.

The time in the AHL will be a first for Gomez, who has 1,066 NHL games under his belt since breaking into the NHL during the 1999-2000 season.

Gomez began this season on a PTO with Blues and earned a one-year contract from it. But in 21 games he scored only once and recorded eight points. Once St. Louis began to get healthy the 36-year old forward was released.

Much of Gomez’s ability to latch on this season with the Blues he attributed to the hiring of Adam Oates as a skills coach. The Hockey Hall of Famer has worked with the likes of Zach Parise, Steven Stamkos, Teddy Purcell and Alex Ovechkin

"That guy brought me back from the dead,” he told NJ.com in November. “You bet I was going to take advantage.”

Elliotte Friedman mentioned on Tuesday that the Los Angeles Kings had looked at bringing Gomez on board until GM Dean Lombardi got involved in trade talks for Vincent Lecavalier.
