Saturday’s Three Stars: Brodeur, Salvador lead Devils to Game 5 win

Mike Richards suddenly goes blind, so Bryce Salvador kindly takes his hand and tries to lead him back to the Kings' bench.

No. 1 Star: Martin Brodeur, New Jersey Devils

The Kings controlled the run of play for much of Game 5, but Brodeur was the great equalizer Saturday in Newark. He made 25 saves in New Jersey's 2-1 Game 5 win over the Kings, keeping the Devils alive once again and sending the series back to Los Angeles for a sixth game.

No. 2 Star: Justin Williams, Los Angeles Kings

Williams scored the long Kings' goal in Game 5 and it was a beauty. Often the forgotten man on his line with Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar, Williams took advantage in a big way early in the second, as the Devils gave him the slot to cover Brown and Kopitar and he made them pay with a beautiful wrister to tie things up.

No. 3 Star: Bryce Salvador, New Jersey Devils

Salvador scored the game-winner, a shot from the point that deflected off Slava Voynov and found its way past Jonathan Quick. It was Salvador's 14th point of the NHL postseason, tying him for the defensive scoring lead with Drew Doughty. Here's the goal:

Honourable mention: Travis Zajac had a game-high 5 shots on goal ... Zach Parise scored the Devils' first goal, taking advantage of a Jonathan Quick miscue behind the net:

Dishonourable mention: Dustin Brown is now 9 games without a goal ... The Carter, Richards, Penner trio struggled to maintain possession. They were the only LA line with a Corsi rating in the minuses ... Quick's misplay on the Parise goal was unfortunate ... Matthew Perry was at the game and he got booed, presumably for starring in the film "Three to Tango".
