A New York Rangers fan figured out a creative way to mix in his favorite team with asking his girlfriend to Gulford High School’s prom.

Chris Cafiero decided to hang a banner with several names of several Rangers players mixed into a message on the garage door of his girlfriend Isabel Pocock.

The sign read “Prom is gonna be NASHty and I don’t want to STAAL this any MOORE so act FAST and STEPAN down to prom with me. If you think you can YANDLE it."

The blog Blueshirts United had the initial story.

"I was just away with my friends one weekend and I was stuck on a prom proposal but being big fans that we both are, I wanted to incorporate hockey in some way, so I looked up ‘hockey prom proposals on the internet and found that kid from Chicago who originally did it, and I was like ‘wow, that’s really good, I should do that and I should do something like that with the Rangers,’" Cafiero said in a phone interview with Puck Daddy. "And then it took me about five minutes to come up with the puns. I don’t know how. They just came to me."

After making the sign, Cafiero then waited at Pocock's house for her to come home from school.

"She came home and I came out with flowers and a poster and she was really happy and surprised," Cafiero said.

Cafiero confirmed Pocock indeed said "yes" to his proposal.

Cafiero tweeted a photo with the sign to the Rangers and the team retweeted Cafiero, which made the proposal that much important to him. As of Wednesday aftrnoon, Cafiero had 367 retweets and 1,080 likes.

"I came up with (the puns) in 3-5 minutes. That wasn’t the hard part. Probably because the Rangers players names fit easily into puns," he said.

Cafiero, who played high school hockey and is a longtime Rangers fan.

This isn’t the first time the Rangers played a role in helping a young fan get a date to the prom. In late February, forward Mats Zuccarello helped Vinny Mutone of Bohemia, N.Y. get a date to his prom by giving Mutone a stick.

Prom is June 3.
