Puck Daddy’s 2014 NHL Trade Deadline Live Blog, Hour 1

9:50 a.m. ET -- With Roberto Luongo back in Florida, where does that leave Tim Thomas? Numerous times this season Thomas has spoken about wanting to stay with the Panthers beyond this season, but with Luongo and his enormous contract having arrived, the former Conn Smythe-winner's future is in doubt.

"That's something that hadn't been discussed until this point,'' Thomas said after Tuesday's trade. "That needs some discussion before comment.''

Panthers GM Dale Tallon said he'll speak with Thomas on Wednesday and come to a decision. In the meantime, Thomas had some fun with his 2011 Stanley Cup Final foe becoming his teammate:

9:35 a.m. ET -- Thomas Vanek is one of the bigger names still available and he remains an Islanders as of Wednesday morning. After being scratched against the Jets last night, there was buzz that the Sharks were getting involved. Nothing materialized overnight and Vanek has traveled with the team to Edmonton.

There's no doubt Vanek will be dealt today, and with GM Garth Snow getting lots of calls on the former Sabres captain, he can sit and wait for the best offer to come in.

Speaking of a big name in play, there is now the chance that Ryan Kesler may stay put today. According to Rob Rossi, there's a feeling that Canucks GM Mike Gillis is not authorized to deal the center. Kesler still has two more years left on his current deal, so Gillis doesn't necessarily have to deal him today. There's always the draft and summer to work out a deal.

9:20 a.m. ET -- Matt Moulson will be part of the Buffalo Sabres continued firesale. As GM Tim Murray begins his rebuild, Moulson told The Buffalo News that he has not been approached with a contract extension. The Los Angeles Kings have been tied to Moulson for a while now, especially since his brother-in-law happens to be Jonathan Quick.

Meanwhile, in Edmonton, Ales Hemsky scored twice and was the game's no. 1 star as the Oilers beat the Senators. It was quite a way to go out as all signs point to Hemsky being on the move. Reportedly a third round pick could be all it takes to make GM Craig MacTavish accept. Prices were too low on Tuesday for Hemsky, according to MacT, so perhaps we see a deal go down closer to the 3 p.m. ET deadline.

9:10 a.m. ET -- Martin Brodeur is still a New Jersey Devil, but he continues to sound like a guy wanted out. According to Darren Dreger, Brodeur submitted a list of 8 or 9 teams he'd be willing to waive his no-trade clause for. It's all up to GM Lou Lamoriello now.

After Tuesday night's 4-3 win over the Red Wings, Brodeur talked about the possibility of playing next season. Via Tom Gultti: “I feel well enough, especially physically I’ve felt as good as I’ve felt in the last three or four years. I know I’m not getting any younger, but I’m feeling good and enjoying the game. It’s just I want to play the game and so we’ll see what’s going to happen with the conversation that I had with Lou and then the future of this. But everything’s a possibility.”

That might force Lamoriello's hand to get something for Brodeur, rather than nothing. Then again, what's the market for a 41-year old goaltender with a .899 save percentage?

9:05 a.m. ET -- According to Rob Rossi of the Tribune-Review, the Ryan Kesler Derby looks like it's down to the Penguins and Flyers. Pittsburgh is still offering the package of Brandon Sutter, 2014 first and third rounders and one of prospect Brian Dumoulin, Simon Despres or potentially Derrick Pouliot. Frank Seravalli reports the Flyers big is "substantial" and that they're also trying to get Alex Edler from the Canucks as well.

9 a.m. ET -- After talks about Martin St. Louis went quiet for the last week or two, they've been reignited with the deadline just seven hours away. According to Bob McKenzie of TSN, the Lightning forward has encouraged a deal today and the New York Rangers are listening.

Potentially involved in Ryan Callahan, the Rangers captain, who is a unrestricted free agent this summer. McKenzie said that the Lightning might be interested in taking on Callahan as a rental, but would have no plans to re-sign him to his big-ticket contract demands.

The Rangers and Callahan reportedly have come closer to an extension, but with the clock ticking, GM Glen Sather has to keep his options open. Sportsnet's John Shannon reports that the Rangers have put in an offer. No word what it included.
