Patrice Bergeron welcomes son, scores goal for him on same day (Video)

Get ready to awwwwwwww…

Patrice Bergeron’s wife Stephanie gave birth to their son Zack on Wednesday morning. And since Bergeron is the type of guy who plays Stanley Cup Final games with a broken rib and a separated shoulder, of course he was going to appear for the Boston Bruins against the Philadelphia Flyers that evening.

Now, there’s an unofficial tradition in the NHL that when players add a new member of the family, they start lighting the lamp. And lo and behold, that’s what Bergeron did – scoring a goal and an assist, although the Bruins lost in overtime, 5-4.

(Goal, assist and baby … Dad Trick?)

After the game, Bergeron said he’s going to do the kind of thing that earns one that No. 1 Dad coffee mug: Saving the puck to give to his newborn son, no doubt with a tale about how he inspired him to score on the power play.

Not a bad effort for a guy working on one hour of sleep, according to Bergeron. He said after the game he had to keep himself focused.

"Trying to soak everything in & spend some time with my son,” he said.

Awwwwww...
