P.K. Subban scores from center ice, immediately takes penalty (Video)

It really wasn’t a good night for the Montreal Canadiens on Monday. They lost 5-2 at the hands of the Columbus Blue Jackets and their one highlight of the night immediately turned into a penalty kill.

P.K. Subban fired a shot from center ice that beat Blue Jackets goaltender Joonas Korpisalo to tie the game 2-2 midway through the second period. Columbus captain Brandon Dubinsky didn’t seem to take too kindly to Subban’s exuberant celebration. As he skated by the Canadiens defenseman, Subban gave him a shove and barked right back .

Whatever Subban said, the officials weren’t fans of and he was given a minor for unsportsmanlike conduct. Fortunately for the Canadiens they killed it off, but couldn’t manage anything offensively in the third period as the Blue Jackets scored three times to take the two points.

"It's a bad penalty," Subban said afterward. "I can argue with the ref all I want... Personally, I didn't think it should have been a penalty. If anything, maybe he blows the whistle and he tells me to skate away, but he called it. I'll respect the ref's decision. For me, obviously, just trying to get my team going, but I've gotta keep my emotions in check. There's no need for me to touch him there."

"[Dubinsky's] a good player," Subban added. "He didn't do anything wrong. If anything, I probably should have just skated to the bench. I tried to take the direct route. I don't think I was trying to get in anybody's grill there. But the celebration was a little emphatic, I'm sure."
