NHL Three Stars: Hat trick for King of Kings, four-point night for Stamkos

No. 1 Star: Dwight King, Los Angeles Kings

In one of the wackiest games of the year to date, Dwight King registered a hat trick as the Los Angeles Kings scored four times in the first period, then allowed the Phoenix Coyotes to claw back and tie it, then scored three unanswered goals in the third to win 7-4. King's hat trick goal was the empty-netter that officially ended this clustercuss.

No. 2 Star: Steven Stamkos, Tampa Bay Lightning

Stamkos scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season and added two assists in the Lightning's 6-5 OT win over the Chicago Blackhawks. One of those assists came on Martin St. Louis's overtime winner:

No. 3 Star: Alex Chiasson, Dallas Stars

Chiasson, who scores goals like it's super easy to do, scored twice in the Stars' 5-1 rout of the Calgary Flames. Here's one of them. It's pretty spiffy:

He also added an assist. Jamie Benn had a two-goal night as well.

Honorable mention: Mike Santorelli scored the shootout winner as the Vancouver Canucks edged the New Jersey Devils, 3-2... David Krejci scored the game-winner in the Boston Bruins' 2-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks with eight tenths of a second to go in regulation:

... Braydon Coburn's third-period goal was the difference in a 2-1 Philadelphia Flyers victory over the New York Rangers... Carey Price stopped 31 of 32 shots and Michael Bournival had a two-point night as the Montreal Canadiens topped the Anaheim Ducks, 4-1... Carton Hutton made 34 saves and Craig Smith scored the OT winner as the Nashville Predators beat out the Winnipeg Jets, 3-2 to move to 1-0 without Pekka Rinne... Zach Parise's 5th of the season was the game-winner for the Minnesota Wild, who beat the Carolina Hurricanes, 3-1... Alex Ovechkin scored his 10th goal of the freaking season in the Washington Capitals' 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers...

Dishonorable mention: Rough night for Radim Vrbata, who finished a minus-4 for Phoenix... Equally rough night for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Jordan Eberle, and Nail Yakupov, all of whom were minus-4 for the Oilers... and finally, friendly reminder to Cory Schneider that he doesn't play for the Canucks anymore, and it's not within his best interests to give Henrik Sedin the puck instead of Andy Greene:
