NHL referee uses mutant power to freeze the puck (Photo)

OK, not really the most accurate headline, but without a doubt one of the coolest images of the NHL season, as the referee (not sure if this was Marc Joannette or Frederick L'Ecuyer) appears to go all Sub-Zero on the New York Islanders and New York Rangers in their game at Madison Square Garden on Friday night.

No better way to let the players know the puck is frozen than shooting ice out of your hands ...

Question of the Day: What mutant power would most benefit an NHL official in his nightly occupational duties?

While we imagine most of the comments will be “invisibility”, we’ll go with the ability to look into a player mind to glean intent on a play moments after, say, a charging or boarding call.

How much easier would Shanahan’s job be then?
