Anton Volchenkov handed four-game suspension for head hit on Michael Ferland (Video)

It was a week ago today that some idiot on this blog was crowing about how NHL players being on their best behavior this season. In the seven days since that post, the NHL's Department of Player Safety has handed out five suspensions.

The latest culprit is Anton Volchenkov of the Nashville Predators, who will sit for four games after this check to the head of Michael Ferland of the Calgary Flames Friday night:

At first viewing, it looks like a clumsy challenge by Volchenkov, but upon seeing the replay you notice the Predators blueliner driving his forearm into Ferland's head. He could have easily laid a big body check on the Flames forward, but the raising of his arms and contact with the head make this a suspendable offense.

Ferland, who was making his NHL debut that night, was concussed on the play and did not join the Flames for their five-game road trip which begins Sunday in Montreal.
