Montreal Canadiens set record with ninth straight regulation win to start season
The Montreal Canadiens are still unbeatable to start the 2015-16 season.
Montreal continued its scorching hot pace in a 5-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. The win by the Habs moved Montreal to 9-0-0 and broke the NHL record for regulation wins to start a season – originally set by the 1975-76 Buffalo Sabres.
They are one win away from tying the record for most wins to start a year, set by the 1993-94 Toronto Maple Leafs and 2006-07 Sabres. The Leafs had one overtime victory in their stretch and the 2006-07 Sabres notched three shootout wins.

Montreal again leaned heavily on goaltender Carey Price. The reigning Vezina Trophy and Hart Trophy winner made 49 saves on 52 Toronto shots on goal.
Said Price according to NHL.com:
"A lot of things have gone right," Price said. "We've gotten the right bounce at the right time, guys have been working as a unit, and we're just playing pretty solid hockey right now."
The Canadiens raced out to a 2-0 lead on goals by defenseman P.K. Subban and forward Lars Eller.
A goal at 19:46 of the second period by Brendan Gallagher put the scored at 5-2 in favor of Montreal.
Subban finished the game with one goal and one assist as did captain Max Pacioretty.
Said Pacioretty per NHL.com:
"It's nice, but we feel like our game the past few games has maybe been slipping a little bit and we've got to get back on track with dominating the possession game," Pacioretty said. "I think 52 shots is too just too much, and we relied on Carey way too much, and that's a bad feeling for the guys. Obviously you don't want to get too spoiled. It's two points. We found ways to put pucks in the net but we would have liked to play the last two games a little bit more in the opposition zone and we look forward to doing that hopefully next game."
Extending the streak further will be difficult for Montreal. The Canadiens hit the road for three games in four days in Western Canada. The Habs play at the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 27 and then go back-to-back with the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames on Oct. 29 and Oct. 30.
