Monday’s Three Stars: Landeskog’s OT winner; Ennis scores twice as Sabres run continues

No. 1 Star: Tyler Ennis, Buffalo Sabres

Ennis scored twice in the Sabres' 3-2 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens, bringing Buffalo to within two points of a playoff spot. Ennis's goals might have been enough if it weren't for some last-second heroics by the Canadiens, who tied the game in the final five seconds to send it to overtime. But Tyler Myers scored the overtime winner, which is good, because Ennis's first goal was too sweet to come in a losing effort:

No. 2 Star: Martin Erat, Nashville Predators

Erat was in on all three of the Predators' goals through the first two periods, scoring the first and assisting on the next two. After Craig Smith scored early in the third, the Predators led 4-2 and looked to be sitting pretty, but the Coyotes scored twice late to send the game to overtime and then a shootout. There, Pekka Rinne shut the door, stopping all three shots, and Andrei Kostitsyn gave Nashville the 5-4 shootout win.

No. 3 Star: Gabriel Landeskog, Colorado Avalanche

Overcoming sickness, Landeskog dressed up for this one, and it's a good thing he did. In addition to his 4 hits and 3 shots, the Avalanche rookie also scored the overtime winner in a 3-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks. Semyon Varlamov made 38 saves.

Honourable mention: Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Daymond Langkow, and Raffi Torres all had a goal and an assist for the Coyotes... David Desharnais had a goal and an assist for the Canadiens. The goal came with four seconds to in regulation versus the Sabres, sending the game to overtime:

... Jamie McGinn scored against Monday, giving him 5 goals and 7 points in the 7 games since being acquired by Colorado at the deadline... Joe Thornton had a goal and an assist and Logan Couture scored the winner as the Sharks knocked off the Edmonton Oilers, 3-2...

Did you know? Midway through the second, Gabriel Landeskog broke the Colorado/Quebec franchise's record for most shots by a rookie in a season, passing Peter Stastny, who had 232 shots in 1980-81. (AP)
