Martin Brodeur takes leave to ponder future with the Blues

Is this really the end for Martin Brodeur?

According to TSN’s Bob McKenzie, the legendary goalie is taking a leave of absence from the St. Louis Blues to think about the rest of his NHL career.

What does the future hold for the 42-year-old former Devils netminder? And it furthers the question, why did he come back to play this year? To stick it to New Jersey? Win a Stanley Cup?

If he’s gone from the Blues, both likely won’t happen. Brodeur had a 2.87 goals against average and .899 save percentage with a talented defensive team in front of him. If he indeed bolts and doesn’t somehow end up with a contender, he won’t win a Stanley Cup. The Blues were probably his best hope.

If this is the end for Brodeur, the hope is that 'Brodeur in a Blues Jersey' ends up in the Hall of Fame of legends who hung on too long with another team and looked super funny in a different uniform. And the fact that he had the mask to match made it even sweeter.
