Kevin Hayes evens score with Islanders after great individual effort (Video)

The New York Islanders held a 1-0 lead over the New York Rangers and had been dominating possession through the opening period and half  in Tuesday night's game at Nassau Coliseum. But a pair of penalties six minutes apart allowed their rivals to begin to turn the game in their favor. The door was open and the visitors took advantage, thanks to a beautiful individual effort by Kevin Hayes.

Just 18 seconds after the Islanders killed off their third penalty of the game, Mats Zuccarello found Hayes, who slipped behind Thomas Hickey, then fought off the defenseman and with his back turned, spun and put the puck behind Jaroslav Halak to tie the game.

The goals was Hayes' 13th of the year and first in six games, and certainly worth getting drilled by Matt Martin in the end.

Rick Nash's third period goal would give the Rangers a 2-1 win.
