Hockey player throws helmet at opponent's face after spearing him (Video)

In an Elite Ice Hockey League (U.K.) game on Saturday, Evan Mosey of Nottingham was transitioning from defense to offense when Joe Grimaldi of Edinburgh decided to stop his progress with a high hit at the blue line.

Mosey went flying, and Grimaldi immediately was challenged by Maxime Lengelier-Parent of Nottingham, looking to avenge his teammate. And Grimaldi was all like “hey, it was just a completely egregious inference penalty … leave me be!”

So he speared Parent. Which didn’t stop him.

Grimaldi realized he might have to fight to answer his transgression. So he circled around Parent, removed his helmet for the brawl… and proceeded to hurl it at Parent’s face, following with a punch.

Parent eventually dropped Grimaldi with a single-leg takedown and the altercation ended. Nottingham won the game, 6-1.

Grimaldi was given a short laundry list of penalties: check to the head minor, spearing major, fighting major, game misconduct, match penalty and another misconduct. Combine that with the boarding minor he was given 23 seconds before this all went down in the third period – Nottingham scored just seven seconds into it – and Grimaldi ended the game with 69 PIMs. (“It’s hilarious!” – GOON)

Good to see Willie Mitchell’s influence reaches across the Atlantic.

The end of Grimaldi's night also meant the end of his time with Edinburgh. After the game, the Capitals released him, offering up a short statement: “Edinburgh Capitals have released Joe Grimaldi from his contract. The club wish Joe well on his future career.”
