Hockey team irate after One Direction show forces game cancellation

(Yes, we know there's only four of them now. Save your letters.)

Tony Smith is the owner of the Sheffield Steelers, an ELITE Ice Hockey League (U.K.) team. And much like 20,000 piercing screams when Harry Styles walks on stage, One Direction has given him a headache.

The epically popular lad band had their Tuesday show postponed due to Liam Payne feeling bloody awful. It was moved to Friday at SSE Arena in Belfast … the night when the Steelers were due to take on the Belfast Giants. But lest 10,000 fans already despondent after Zayn left the band feel even more disappointment in their young lives, the arena opted to cancel the hockey game for the One Direction show.

Said Smith, according to Belfast Live:

Boss Tony Smith said: "This is unacceptable and not the end of the matter."

Hundreds of travelling Steelers fans are furious, having forked out hundreds of pounds, and have told Belfast Live that they feel they've been bypassed in the decision. Steelers’ operations director, Shaun Smith, said: "We are disappointed that the game isn’t proceeding not only for ourselves but for the many fans who have already booked their travel, hotel and game night tickets.

“We certainly aren’t happy with the late postponement. We believe this is a commercial decision taken by the arena in Belfast that will certainly inconvenience, disrupt and hurt financially both the club and our supporters. We await further communication with Belfast in due course.”

Upwards of 300 Steelers fans were affected by the decision, as they were going to travel to Belfast for a Friday-Saturday doubleheader. Tina Wood, for example, was spending £500 to take her husband to Belfast for the games.

“We're absolutely fuming. I know these things happen as such but One Direction have been messed about too. So right now it's not just One Direction fans being messed about, it's the hockey fans as well,” she said to the Mirror.

Harry Styles apologized to One Direction fans for the Tuesday show being cancelled, but as of Thursday had yet to release a statement addressing the really important fans in this situation.

Friday's game will be rescheduled, but refunds are being offered. Saturday's game is still on.

Oh well, Steelers fan. It’s The Story of Your Life. You And I should just crank up The Best Song Ever and Live While We’re Young. Because That, friend, is What Makes You Beautiful.
