After flood damage, Saddledome will be ready for Flames preseason
There are 51 days until the Calgary Flames play their first home game of the 2013 NHL preseason. A month after massive flooding brought water up to the eighth row of the Saddledome, the team says that the arena will be ready when they host the Edmonton Oilers on Sept. 14 as part of a split-squad game.
Last month, Flames president Ken King said of the flooding which affected the Saddledome, "If you were a hockey player walking out of the tunnel onto the ice, you’d be underwater yourself." After weeks of working to restore the damage, which included the destruction of team mascot Harvey the Hound's suit, the efforts are on schedule for a Sept. 1 target date to be ready.

“From a public standpoint, and from a hockey standpoint, we want everything to be operational. This week was the time to decide if we could proceed as planned,” Flames’ president and CEO Ken King said Wednesday, “and the answer is yes.”
Should a hiccup arise over the next month and a half, the Flames would have three options to play any home preseason games: the Stampede Corral, the Centrium in Red Deer and the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge. All three seat less than 6,700 for hockey.
