Devils try for home-and-home sweep vs. Flyers; Red Wings visit Oilers (Puck Previews)

Here are your Puck Previews: Spotlighting the key games in NHL action, news and views as well as general frivolity. Make sure to stop back here for the nightly Three Stars when the games are finished.

Preview: New Jersey Devils at Philadelphia Flyers, 7 p.m. ET. The Flyers need to win this otherwise they will have been swept in this home-and-home with the Devils and, according to goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, they're done. Five points out of the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference, Philadelphia got a talking to from GM Paul Holmgren, hockey stick in hand. Will it work? New Jersey is going with the same lineup that beat the Flyers on Wednesday night 5-2.

Preview: Nashville Predators at Calgary Flames, 9 p.m. ET. Miikka Kiprusoff was strong on Wednesday in a win over Detroit and he'll be back in net again tonight to win their second in a row. The Predators are coming off a 7-4 loss Thursday night to Vancouver. They didn't skate this morning, so it's unknown if Barry Trotz will make any lineup changes.

Preview: Detroit Red Wings at Edmonton Oilers, 9:30 p.m. ET. The Red Wings have lost three in a row and will look to snap their slide against an Oilers side who have won two in a row and sit four points behind Detroit for ninth in the Western Conference. Detroit's top scorers are struggling. As the Free Press notes, Pavel Datysuk (11 games), Henrik Zetterberg and Damien Brunner (8 games) are looking to get back on the goal sheet. Edmonton returns home after a 9-day road trip, hoping to turn around their 4-4-2 record at Rexall Place.

Evening Reading

• These are the jerseys the Texas Stars will be for Military Appreciation Weekend, as modeled by team captain Maxime Fortunus. Here are the details from the Stars:

"On Friday night (Mar. 22) the Stars will debut their jerseys against the Rochester Americans and on Saturday (Mar. 23) Brigadier General Dean Milner, deputy commanding general III Corps and Fort Hood will drop the ceremonial first puck.

This is Texas' second Military Appreciation Weekend of the season. At the first one in November, which featured a "Stars & Stripes" themed jersey, the team donated 1,700 tickets to military families through the support of fans and sponsors and raised over $31,000 through the jersey auction."

Pass or fail on these?

• Brent Burns' move to forward has paid off so far for the San Jose Sharks. [Eye on Hockey]

• Finally, via NESN, comes this crazy spin-o-rama high school goal:

Puck Daddy Reader Comment of the Day: Stu on the idea of Jarome Iginla to the Kings:

He would've been a fit on the Kings 5 years ago. Now, not so much. Especially if that's what they'd want in return. But if their looking to rebuild from the net out and want Bernier, Iggy's finishing touch would be welcome...But he wouldn't be (nor do I think he wants) top billing. Interesting, though.

Bold Prediction: The Flyers drop a second in a row to the Devils. Put us down for 3-1.
