Dallas Stars rookie too shaken by Rich Peverley health scare to play vs. Blues

When Rich Peverley was being carried to the back by Dallas Stars medical and training personal, having slumped over on the bench during their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday night, rookie forward Alex Chiasson sat on the boards, his back to the ice.

Moments later, he was seated on the bench, his head down. Like his teammates, have had an idea what ailed Peverley – he missed the preseason with an irregular heartbeat – and like his teammates, he wasn’t sure what happened to him after he was carried off, looking lifeless.

Peverley was taken to UT Southwestern St. Paul hospital on Monday night, alert and resting according to doctors who treated his “cardiac event” during the first period of the game.

According to the Stars, Chiasson also went to the hospital last night as well, distraught over the Peverley incident. He was released, but the Stars felt it was best that he didn't play 24 hours after the incident.

The rookie did not fly with the team to St. Louis for their game against the Blues on Tuesday night.

“Rich Peverley is resting comfortably and being monitored at UT Southwestern St. Paul. He is currently undergoing testing to discover what triggered the cardiac event last night. The focus of all the testing and monitoring is being dedicated to finding the cause of the event and a long-term solution to rectify the problem. We do not have any more specifics at the moment. Rich has been communicating with his teammates and friends. He is extremely grateful for all of the prayers and support that he’s received from fans and friends alike.”
