Connor McDavid becomes face of Adidas hockey with endorsement deal

NHL jersey purists may have received more nightmare fuel Tuesday.

Connor McDavid has signed with Adidas Canada as the company’s newest ‘brand ambassador’ according to a release.

"I'm really excited to be partnering with an iconic brand such as adidas. They have a great team of people who provide great support and even better products, ” McDavid said in a statement.  “It’s an honour to be a part of #teamadidas, thanks to everyone who made this possible."

According to the release, he will wear Adidas performance apparel and footwear.

In mid-August, it was reported that Adidas won the right to produce NHL jerseys starting in 2017-18 supplanting Reebok, jersey supplier since 2005-06. This led to worry and wonder about sponsors on NHL jerseys – even if they would mean extra money for the league and #theplayers.

McDavid going with Adidas likely shows the company is here for hockey and it’s willing to push its brand with the game’s next big star, who is apparently already better than Steven Stamkos, according to Steven Stamkos.

Per the release, he will also “play a key role in future performance product launches” which in theory would be hockey jerseys.
