Carey Price's creepy Jacques Plante Heritage Classic tribute mask
David Arrigo is a legendary artist who's painted some of the more creative goalie masks in hockey. Just scroll through the gallery on his website to get a feel for his work.
Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price(notes) has worked with Arrigo in the past and called upon him to create a mask to wear in Sunday's Heritage Classic against the Calgary Flames. Price wouldn't divulge details to the media last week. He would only say it would have a retro feel to it.
Unveiled Sunday by CBC's Elliotte Friedman via Twitter, Price's mask will have many believing they're looking at legendary Habs netminder Jacques Plante. Really.
According to Friedman, the ears and hair are to represent Price's, but the eyes and mouth are Plante's.
Price won't be the only goalie with a tribute mask. Flames alum Mike Vernon will sport one honoring the 1989 Cup winning team during Sunday's Alumni Game -- a game which will feature Martin Gelinas, he of 19 NHL seasons and not one as a Canadien, playing for a Montreal side that is shorthanded for the game.
Wysh will be on-site in Calgary to provide coverage once Delta lands a plane on time.
